PrismTech Showcases New Vortex Capabilities for Fog Computing at OpenFog Consortium Meeting in Princeton

Demonstration with ADLINK IoT Gateway highlights benefits of a dynamic Fog Computing architecture to support real-time edge processing within an Internet of Things system

Vortex at OpenFog Consortium Meeting PrincetonBoston, MA, USA – May 17, 2016 – PrismTech™, a global leader in software platforms for distributed systems, today announced that it is showcasing new Vortex™ capabilities for Fog Computing at the OpenFog Consortium Member meeting in Princeton, New Jersey today and tomorrow (May 17-18).  As part of this showcase, PrismTech is conducting a demonstration with ADLINK's Matrix IoT Gateway technology and also releasing a new whitepaper discussing the benefits of adopting a data-centric solution based on Vortex to enable real-time Fog Computing networks.

The OpenFog Consortium is a public-private ecosystem formed to accelerate the adoption of Fog Computing in order to solve the bandwidth, latency and communications challenges associated with the Internet of Things (IoT).  Its members include the most innovative companies, universities, and individual contributors in the industry.

In a demonstration combining PrismTech’s Vortex intelligent data sharing platform and ADLINK’s MXE-202i IoT Gateway, PrismTech is showing how to create a dynamic and scalable Fog Computing architecture to support real-time edge processing within an IoT system.  A dynamic Fog network can be used to enable edge-based processing and analytics in order to reduce system response time and improve decision making, federate processing load across nodes and minimize network bandwidth consumption in comparison to Cloud-centric solutions.  The demo will illustrate the importance of a data-centric architecture to enable real-time device-to-device data connectivity that can support east-west data flows, in addition to north-south flows, between nodes.  Advanced features of the underlying platform middleware such as automatic discovery allow the system to evolve dynamically and create a decentralized architecture that removes any single points of failure.  Data interoperability between the Data Distribution Services for Real-time Systems (DDS) standard and other IoT protocols including MQTT will also be shown.
