Allowing Spectrum Signal Users to Upgrade to Spectra’s High-Performance, Low-Footprint SCAv2.2.2 Operating Environment, and exploit the Productivity Advantages of Spectra Developer Tools
Boston, MA, USA – 13 April, 2007 — PrismTech™, an acknowledged leader in the provision of state-of-the-art middleware and development tools, today announced it has ported its Spectra™ Operating Environment (OE) and developer tools to Spectrum Signal’s flexComm™ SDR (Software Defined Radio) platform. This port will enable Spectrum Signal users to easily migrate and upgrade their SDR development environment to PrismTech’s high-performance, low-overhead, Software Communications Architecture (SCA) v2.2.2-compliant OE and to utilize Spectra’s productivity tools for rapid application (waveform components and platform services) development.
Spectrum Signal’s flexComm™ family provides, “Fully integrated, black-side SDR platforms providing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) ‘RF to Ethernet’ platforms for military communications programs”. Users of the flexComm™ SDR platforms include: Lockheed Martin, Motorola, The French Ministry of the Interior, NASA, the Government of Canada, and General Dynamics C4 Systems. PrismTech’s Spectra OE provides SDR developers with a complete and highly-optimized SCA- compliant COTS OE with superior performance and the smallest footprint in the industry. Spectra OE includes (pre-integrated and optimized): an SCA v2.2.2-compliant core framework; C and C++ ORB middleware; the required CORBA® Object Services (Lightweight Log Service, Lightweight Event Service, Lightweight Naming Service), and an XML parser; all in a package that requires under 0.75 MB of memory. (For comparison, many alternative SCA OE implementations require well over 10 MB of memory).
PrismTech’s Spectra productivity tools generate code for any SCA-compliant platform and provide a seamlessly integrated suite of SCA waveform and platform modeling, code generation, test and deployment development tools.
By porting Spectra’s OE and tools to the Spectrum Signal flexComm™ SDR platform, PrismTech offers flexComm™ users the opportunity to upgrade to the most efficient OE and most productive toolset for SCA radio developers.
“Spectrum Signal has an impressive list of flexComm™ customers using, primarily, the SDR-3000 series military communications rapid-prototyping development platform. With this port, PrismTech is very pleased to be able to bring to this user base the significant functional and productivity benefits that Spectra’s advanced SCA implementation and tools have to offer versus first-generation alternatives,” said Dominick Paniscotti, VP SDR Products, PrismTech.
PrismTech wishes to acknowledge the support of the EU FP7 WINTSEC project team, especially TNO, in helping to expedite this project.
